Facebook Tip: Make Yourself Admin of Old Groups EDIT: No Longer Works

Today I went to Facebook. An ALF group I had joined was deserted by its creator, presumably due to the pressure on Facebook users to go private or eliminate anything unprofessional from their profiles (most often it happens when they're searching for a job).

Whatever the reason that caused the original admin to leave "I love Alf," I don't care. Now I'm the admin. I never had to setup the group, I never had to come up with the idea, and now I'm running it.

Not only did I become the admin of that group - I became the admin of at least six other groups today. Awesome. That's like finding six bucks on the ground and going to get lunch.

Go check your old groups and see if they need an admin. This will be especially prevalent for users who have been on Facebook for a couple years. I joined back in 2004 and immediately became a member of many goofy groups. Now those owners have deserted and I'm the boss.

So go see if you have a chance to become admin of a group you never even made. While you're at it, go ahead and join "I love Alf".

EDIT: This feature is no longer available.

I have a group on Facebook. The account that I used to create the gruop has been closed hence I can't do anything with the group. The gruop now has no admin. I have since joined the gruop with anther account. How do I become an admin.

Thanks

Runners - Go to the "Groups" page, which should list your recently updated groups on the right and groups recently added by your friends on the left.

Go to the top left corner of that page (right underneath the Facebook logo) and click on the "My Groups" link.

Scroll down the list of your groups on that page until you find the group in question. You'll see it listed very similar to the first picture accompanying this blog, with a a message that reads "There are no admins left in this group!" All you have to do is hit the "Become Admin" link and you're good to go.

yeah i'm about 95% sure that this doesn't work anymore. i think all the negative press must have caused Facebook to switch their stance on this.

Tyler, sorry it took me so long to respond to your question!! Honestly, I have no idea what you can do nowadays. All of the info in this blog post relates to how things worked years ago. Since Facebook has changed the way groups work, I'm no longer an expert on hijacking admin privileges. Good luck!!
